vision help- alternative to buckram?

I was working on my bunnymund suit head recently when i noticed i was having trouble seeing through the eyes. They go pretty far in, an my eyelashes are long so they they come in contact with th eyes, and additionally i can barely see through th buckram. I want to be able to use it at cons. Any suggestions of alternatives to buckram or if i should just use taxidermy eyes? I do need the whites of th eyes but im really not wanting it to be toony at all. The eyes are a toony style, but im going for it to look like the movie. I still need to de-tape and add more to the foam because the cheek tufts are not long enough. Any advice would really help.
