Reinforcing fur backing?

A recent suit I made required a fur color that came only in a shorter fur. The problem? The backing  weaker. We made the body loose but somewhat form fit to avoid wrinkles and a strong stretch seam was put into place into areas such as the butt and other high stress areas. Our seams have been holding beautifully but the backing is tearing in spots, requiring some hand stitches to be thrown in and a sewing kit to be brought along while suiting.

I've tested out several methods for sewing to help alleviate the tearing but nothing is working. Is there a way to reinforce the backing of this fur? It's CR's cubby Pooh.
