Hello all, I'm pretty new to the community and was wondering if I could bounce some questions off of everyone! I don't have pictures to upload ATM, but I will do so once the sun comes up and I can take some :)
I have a very nice (albeit a bit older) suit, and as such it has some minor wear and tear and such. I did not commission this suit myself, rather I purchased it from someone who had bought it from the maker.
-Firstly, the suit is a very realistic suit.
-It was made with a kanekalon "mane", but some of the kanekalon is of higher quality than other bits, and the lower quality bits are starting to degrade a bit and fall apart. To be honest, her whole head sheds like none other- my best friend and I have a running gag that the suit needs "Her weave re-did". Should I get her refurbed with more kanekalon (that will potentially fall out again and such) or should I just save up a bit and maybe get her head redone with some NFT?
-The feet were made on high-heeled boots for a digitigrade look, but the boots themselves are falling apart horribly (not to mention they don't fit me quite right). Normally I'd have no problem with having someone rip apart the boots to install new ones, but I worry about the fur as the fur itself was a rare and discontinued fur D:
So what I'm asking is this-
Firstly, should I try to contact the maker and see if she'd be interested in refurbishing and updating the character? The maker tends to have a bit of a queue, and when the maker does open she gets booked up very quickly. I also don't want to run the risk of sending the head off to someone else to be refurbished and potentially upsetting the maker (I know it sounds silly, but I know some makers can get rubbed the wrong way if one of their suits gets sent to someone else to be refurbished). The suit is also made of a very unique material (I can't go into too much detail without revealing the maker- I don't think the maker would be offended as it was one of her first suits, but I'm just trying to play things safe!)
Secondly, if I a)get recommended to contact the maker and b) end up contacting the maker but she doesn't wish to refurbish it or such, who would you all recommend for a refurbish? The bits I need re-done are the bits listed above, so it wouldn't be a full refurbish (more like a parts refurbish, I suppose) but I'd love to know who you all would recommend.
